  • Pros: Made specifically for robots. Holes in arm make it easy to attach stuff to links.
  • Cons: Don't know what material it's made out of so may weigh too much. May be too short at 210 mm (~ 8 inches) long.

Lynxmotion Aluminum Links (Leg, Femur and Tibia)





  • Price: Pairs of each: Leg for $10.17, Femur for $11.02, Tibia for $16.95 (vary based on size)
  • Pros: Made specifically for robots. Thin, (hopefully) lightweight.
  • Cons:Don't have much control over size of links. Designed for multiple servos per leg (not just one using tendons).

Vex 12" Links


  • Price: 2 for $8.96
  • Pros: Made specifically for robots, can be used with Vex joints.
  • Cons:Vendor provides sparse info on product. Don't know what material it's made out of so may weigh too much.

Carbon Fiber Tubes

  • Price: Varies from $4 for 48 inch to $20 for 30 inches depending on the type 
  • Pros: Lightweight, durable, rigid, can be ordered in a variety of lengths and sizes 
  • Cons: Expensive, requires a machine shop for cuts

Papier Mache Tubes


  • Price: Varies
  • Pros: Cheap, strong yet light can shape it as desired.  Many different ways to make
  • Cons: Depending on the type use, may not be strong enough to handle weight.

Kite Frame
NITRO OVERSTOCK

  • Pros: Carbon fiber tubes that are normally used to build kites.  Can be purchased in large quantities. Very light weight.
  • Cons: Very thin which might lead to flexing. However, if rods were attached in bundles it may help resolve this.

  • Pros: Light plastic with fast design time
  • Cons: Week connections, still heavier than carbon fiber,
